Italy wasn't always an independent country, it was controlled by Austria and ruled their Italian provinces.In 1832, a young man by the age of 26 Giuseppe Mazzini had arranged a national group called young Italy and the requirements were you had to be younger than 40 years of age. His rebellion failed in 1848 as it did for many other empires. In 1870, Italian forces took over the very last part of the territory known as the papal states, Venice became part of Italy.Italy also faced many economic problems. The Italian government couldnt handle the economic problems they had been facing with Italy. Italy had entered the 20th century an unwealthy country.

Guiseppe Mazzini was one of the first leaders who unified parts of Italy and created it Young Italy. Then the Kingdom of Sardinia was formed and united italy again but it was larger. They declared war with Austria and got most of northern Italy. Then a soldier named Guiseppe Garibaldi had a army and claimed Sicily.
